Sentimental Baby / Ol’ Mac Donald / Blue Moon

<---- 1959 Sessions  1960 Singles:   March 2     April 13                         Aug. 31     Sept. 1                       Dec. 20                         Dec. 21 ----> `1962 Sessions

Song #1: “Sentimental Baby”

Top choices, both mono:

•1984 Dutch DMM Sinatra

    Sings...of Love and Things LP

•1983 Australian The Rarities -

    Volume Two LP

Second Place:

•1983 MFSL Sinatra Sings...of Love

    and Things LP (stereo)

Sub-par:

•1987 Sinatra’s Swingin’ Session CD - the stark, dry tone on the vocal works okay on some of the up-tempo material on the disc, but not as well on this ballad

Avoid:

Complete Capitol Singles, 1998 Sinatra’s Swingin’ Session CDs - Overly-processed Norberg remix

NOTES

•Track Layout:

-Left = Woodwinds, strings, harp,

     piano, celeste

-Center: Sinatra (Voice and fingers)

-Right = Brass, rhythm section

    (except piano/celeste), mallets

•Oddly, there is tape damage on two editions, the 1984 UK and 1998 UK Sinatra Sings...of Love and Things LP and CD.  This is odd because on most of these comparisons, the 1984 edition matches USA sources, while on this track, both are sourced from some (UK?) dub.
