Just in Time / The Song is You / It All Depends on You

(Initial attempts at tracks intended for the then-forthcoming COME DANCE WITH ME album)

Top Choice:

The Ultimate Sinatra

NOTES

•This track has only surfaced in mono, despite the session being recorded in stereo (probably still in the soon-to-be-phased-out 3-mic style) and mono.

Arranger/Conductor: Billy May

Original Release: Single-disc editions of The Ultimate Sinatra, 2015

Original LP Release: (none)

Original CD Release: Single-disc edition of

    The Ultimate Sinatra, 2015

Releases sampled:

•2015 single-disc edition of The Ultimate Sinatra

Song #1:

Just in Time (alternate)

Top Choice, a little dark/dull:

The Rare Sinatra LP

Second place, a little bright/brittle:

The Rare Sinatra CD

NOTES

•Erroneously noted as being part of the December 9 session, the presence of a marimba player on the recording points to the track actually belonging to this session.

•This track has only surfaced in mono, despite the session being recorded in stereo (probably still in the soon-to-be-phased-out 3-mic style) and mono.

•Both released versions run about 55 cents sharp, or about 2.3% too fast.

Arranger/Conductor: Billy May

    The Rare Sinatra, 1998

Top Choice:

•1998 Come Dance with Me CD

Subpar:

The Rare Sinatra LP - off speed

•1987 Come Dance with Me CD - poor mix with mid-range-y tone, reverb added, and the vocal off center.

Avoid:

•1998 The Rare Sinatra CD - off speed; edgy tone

NOTES

•The mono releases are even further off speed/pitch than for “The Song is You.”  (See NOTES for that song, above.)

•I am not at all happy wit the “top choice,” but the other options are all severely flawed.  If you can slow down the 1978 release by about 4.1%, that’s the best option.
