Witchcraft / Something Wonderful Happens in Summer /

Tell Her You Love Her / You’re Cheatin’ Yourself

Top Choices:

•1988 All the Way CD

•Legendary Singers LP

•Collectors Series (and re-uses)

•The Capitol Years (and re-uses)

Close seconds:

•All the Way: The Hit Collection

•UK The Frank Sinatra Collection CD

20 Golden Greats CD

Pleasant, warm LP alternative:

•1966 UK World Record Club mono LP See “NOTES” at right.

Not as good:

Sentimental Journey, His Twenty Greatest Hits, and Sinatra Touch LPs - mildly compressed; odd tone

•1984 UK stereo All the Way LP - heavy tone; compressed

•1998 UK All the Way CD - compressed

Avoid:

•All other stereo All the Way LPs, Twenty Gold Greats LP, and The Works LP: fake stereo

•All pre-2016 mono All the Way LPs, The Hit Maker LP - wet tapes used.

•Original 45s, 1986 Australian 2-CD The Frank Sinatra Collection, Fifty Shades of Gray soundtrack CD, and 2016 All the Way LP - audibly compressed

•Complete Capitol Singles - Norberged

NOTES

The 1966 mono World Record Club LP is a fold-down from the non-Duophonic, fake stereo tapes, but the tone is very warm and pleasing.  Not a “top choice,” but nice on its own terms.

The Capitol Years

Avoid:

NOTES

•1998 UK This is Sinatra, Volume Two CD has two odd clicks during instrumental opening.  Sound is mildly compressed, but otherwise not bad.

•Undoubtedly, many listeners will prefer the “second choices.”  My explanation/justification for my top choices can be read here, if interested.

Song #3:

“Tell Her You Love Her”

Top Choices:

The Sinatra Touch - which is not very good.  (See NOTES)

Avoid:

Complete Capitol Singles CD - Norberged

Tell Her You Love Her and Sunday and Every Day with Frank Sinatra LPs - wet tapes

The Works LP - Duophonic

NOTES

•The  “top choice” is stated with a large grain of salt, for two reasons:

1.) There is such a paucity of choices;

2.) The copy of Sinatra Hits used here is so damaged as to make its actual sonic qualities impossible to ascertain.

Top Choices:

•Japan Hit Collection CD

•2016 This is Sinatra, Volume Two LP

Second Best:

•1984 Japan This is Frank Sinatra, Volume Two LP

Avoid:

NOTES

•There is a very minor tape defect in the right channel only on the very first note of the top choice CD, and a quick tape dropout in the first few seconds of the 1985 UK LP.
